Hi, we are Yvonne Lim and Shaonan Xu, and this is how The Array started.
THE ARRAY journey started during our Masters in Fashion program at the Royal College of Art. As our research revolved around the themes of power and femininity, we started questioning ourselves on how we could genuinely empower women through our design practice.
We were inspired by the evolving landscape of women's workwear, and the soft power it represented in today's workplace. Our graduate collection was dedicated to the modern working woman, with a capsule of essential garments specifically designed with her in mind. The collection was modelled by a wonderful group of women we met at the Royal College of Art.
THE ARRAY's debut Collection is an elevated extension of the capsule we first designed at the RCA. Our process starts with extensive research, including an online survey and a series of personal interviews with working women. The conversations we had with these women have been a substantial source of inspiration for us in the development of the collection.
We started with deciding on an edited array of garments that were most relevant to the contemporary woman, which was a combination of both workwear classics and new essentials. Next, we looked into how we could elevate every piece with everything from the fabric choice to pocket details. We believe empowering fashion is equivalent to garments as beautiful as they are functional, and every single element of each garment is thoughtfully designed and considered.
We want women to feel instantly confident and comfortable in THE ARRAY outfits, so all they need to focus on is their work, purpose and ambitions. This freedom and sense of ease to focus on work and ambition, for us, is the true essence of modern femininity.
